Autel MaxiLink ML629 Functions:
1. Four Systems (Engine/Transmission/ABS/SRS) Diagnoses
Read Diagnostic Trouble Codes: You can decipher error codes by the function of Read DTCs, and it offers viable solutions to the problems indicated by the detected hard codes.
Clear DTCs and Turn off the Light: You are able to clear the DTCs within seconds after you have finished the repair work, and then the warning light will be off automatically.
Retrieve Live Data Stream: This DIY scanner supports reading four systems' live data stream, from which you can get real-time PID data from ECU.
NOTE: Engine system scan, Transmission system scan, ABS system scan and SRS(Airbag) system scan of ML629 does NOT work on all cars from 1996. Please email VIN number to us to check compatibility before purchase.
The “Malfunction Indicator Lamp” (or Check Engine Light) is supposed to come on when a problem occurs in the engine control system that affects emission. Depending on how the system is configured and the nature of the problem, the lamp may come on and go off, remain on continuously or flash. When this happens, the OBDII system sets one or more diagnostic trouble codes that correspond to the problem detected. ML629 is the scan tool that can help you read and clear codes for engine control system.
The job of a car's transmission is to make sure that the right amount of power goes to your wheels to drive at a given speed. It works by shifting gears and if you don't keep it well-maintained, you'll lose fuel economy or maybe not even be able to drive at all. This OBD2 Scanner helps eliminating the warning light by the clearing diagnostic trouble codes function, but crucially this diagnostic tool can read DTCs to locate the cause of the trouble, also view live data stream for recognizing current condition of the Transmission, so then you can address the issue timely.
An anti-lock braking system (ABS) is an automobile safety system that allows the wheels on a motor vehicle to maintain tractive contact with the road surface according to driver inputs while braking, preventing the wheels from locking up (ceasing rotation) and avoiding uncontrolled skidding. An ABS warning lamp that is on usually means trouble and you need to pull the code to figure out what is wrong. The ML629 provides convenient service to read and erase codes for the ABS system.
The Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) is also referred to as a passive restraint system because the vehicle occupants do not need to do anything. The SRS system will be activated when the enabling criteria (speed and deceleration) are met. If the SRS light is blinking or stays on, there is a fault somewhere in the SRS system, putting you and your passengers at risk. The purpose of the SRS light on your instrument panel is to alert you of a potential problem with your supplemental restraint system.
Use the ML629 to have the system checked if:
The light does not come on when you turn the ignition ON.
The light stays on after the engine starts.
The light comes on or flashes while you are driving.
2. Complete OBD2 Functions for Emission Problems
On the basis of complete OBD2 functions, all the issues related to emission can be addressed timely:
Read & clear detected diagnostic trouble codes and turn off the Check Engine Light;
Read I/M readiness status to have a vehicle inspected for state emissions compliance;
View graphical live data of vehicle's computer module(s) for easy analyses;
View the vehicle's operating parameters at the moment a DTC is detected;
Show the last results of the O2 sensor test in graphic display for troubleshooting;
Read the results of on-board diagnostic monitoring tests for specific components/systems;
Component Test: Allow initiating a leak test for the vehicle's EVAP system;
Retrieve the vehicle information of VIN, CINs, and CVNs completely.
3. Practical Add- on Features
DTC Lookup: Thanks to the DTC Lookup function, you are able to identify where a fault might be occurring within a vehicle by simply clicking several buttons, instead of looking for each code's definition online one by one.
Data Playback: All the diagnostic result will be recorded in this OBD2 scanner, which is prepared for reviewing history diagnostic recordings, and further identifying vehicle's running conditions.
Data Printing: The print data function allows you to print DTC data recorded by this OBD2 scanner via connecting this scanner to PC with the supplied USB cable, so you can show the diagnostic result to the technician straightforwardly.
4. Extensive Vehicle Models
In line with all available OBD2 & CAN protocols, this OBD2 Scan Tool works on most America, Asia and Europe vehicles including for GM, for Ford, for Chrysler, for Honda, for Nissan, for Volvo, for VW, for AUDI, for BMW and for Mercedes etc. When the warning light is illuminated, you can plug this OBD2 Scanner into the cars' OBD port which is a rich avenue for procuring messages on the performance and health of the car, to locate the problem and solve it in time, enhancing automobile driving security
5. Auto VIN Retrieval
Autel MaxiLink ML629 features advanced Auto VIN functions allowing you to quickly figure out the tested car according to the vehicle identification number. @ Jonathan E. Sorensen
Bought this for use on a 2019 Ram 2500
pickup -- so was hoping not to have to use it for awhile. However, did have a CEL at about 4500 miles. Was able to scan / diagnose / reset a 'turbo underboost' CEL (mountainous driving / no trailer) -- which was good -- I was on my way to pick up a brand new 2020 Keystone Laredo 37' travel trailer
. Would not have been an ideal situation picking up with a CEL. Also, was able to scan / read the Ram OBD with the Security Gateway Module (SGM). Even retrieved my PIN code. So, haven't really needed to use it much on a new vehicle, but have no doubt this will come in handy after my warranty period is expired... and some of those EPA 'systems' are deleted/removed/bypassed on the Cummins diesel engine. Well-built & easy to setup and use. Great purchase / investment. Probably does as much as the complete laptop-based software program I had for my old Land Rover LR3
@ Jmd My first code reader/diagnostics tool.
Just purchased a used 2011 Jeep wranlgler
unlimited Sahara with a lot of miles 183k and a lot of lights on the dash, so I needed a tool that could do engine plus airbag light code diagnostics. The ml629 worked great at helping me figure out what codes were present so it was easy to pinpoint the cause. I emailed Autel before my purchase with my vin to make sure this unit would scan all issues on my jeep, engine/srs(airbag)/trans and abs they replied within minutes that my question was forwarded to the engineer, that was about 8pm. The next morning I had another email from them confirming the the unit would do it all. That’s 2 replies in less than 12 hours. That’s petty responsive customer service, Thanks. Sandra Z.
In the sea of scanners out there I’m glad I purchased the Autel ml629 scanner, easy to use and navigate the menus plus the manual was clear and easy to read , great for a newcomer like me.
Bonus, it comes with a nice case to store everything in.
As they say , you can buy a cheaper scanner but then You have to use it. Haha.
Now I don't have to use different obd2 scanners to get the different things, which is awesome, considering it was only 125 USD at the time I bought it. love it
Edit1: 1 month later, and this is one hell of a product, it’s fast, reliable, and working perfectly, although I had some issues with my 2011 Hyundai Sonata
, a simple update made that trick, the update process is straight forward you plug it, download their software after it detects it, just click update all, and there you have it; refer to your owner’s manual for the update instructions.
Edit2: 11 months later, this thing is still fast as new, managed to fix a car that was mostly destroyed 2014 Toyota Camry, 2011 Chevy Suburban, 2008 Chevy Lumina, 2011 Hyundai Sonata, 2003 Toyota Corolla, 2014 Ford Mustang, 2007 BMW M3, 2016 Hyundai Elentra,
all using the Autel MaxiLink ML629, very reliable, fast, easy-to-use and updatable.
A solid choice for small starting workshops or personal use, worth every penny, keeping my 5 stars
Edit3: 20 months later, although it has been a long time since a bought it, few updates and it's as good as new, I haven't been using it lately as much as before but when I do, it never lets me down, but sometimes, it doesn't happen as often as it may sound, but sometimes it won't detect a car module, ex; I've used it on a 2005 Ford Freestar
, the device have detected the VIN number and everything flawlessly, but couldn't read any SRS and Transmission codes, just keep that in mind when buying it, apart from that, it is amazing and worth the price.
Still, my opinion hasn't changed, it's a solid choice for small starting workshops or personal use, and I'm keeping my 5-star review!
