How to use Autel MaxiIM IM608 + G-BOX2 adapter to perform a BMW N20 DME ISN reading? Today I’m going to demonstrate by reading the ISN code from this N20 DEM on a BMW.
Currently I do not have any keys for BMW and since I need the ISN code, the G-BOX2 will assist me today. G-BOX2 is capable of retrieving the ISN code from this DME, using G-BOX2 can extract the ISN without trilling.
Okay, now connect Autel IM608 to the WIFI, then let’s get to start:
IMMO >> Accept >> BMW >> System Selection >> Engine
Since I am doing this on bench, so choose “Direct”.
Once you have obtained the DME from the vehicle, if you need to identify the ECU type you’re working on. Please choose “Quick Entrance” on Autel IM608 scanner.
Select “Help” button.
The scan tool will prompt you to enter a 10 digit number found on a white sticker cover of the DME. Please take note of this number and then press “ESC”.
Enter number and press “OK”.
The screen will show the engine ECU type, as you can see, there are 2 options. Please select “Bench”.
Scroll down and review the diagram for quickness and time. I’ve used the DB15 that is included with G-BOX2 and have already connected the corresponding wires. Now connect Autel JVCI to the G-BOX2 using OBD2 cable. Don’t forget to power G-BOX2 with the Autel IM608 power adapter.
Press “OK” at the bottom of the tablet screen.
Read ISN >> OK
Processing...
To save the DME coding, press “Yes”>> Confirm
Once it is complete, the ISN code is going to appear on the screen, please make a note of it. Because you will need it to make a key for BMW. Now all are ready and all set to make a key.

G-BOX2 can also do fast mode with Autel IM608 key programming tool on Mercedes, either on bench or through OBD2 for all key lost. For more tutorials, to be updated...
